A man and a woman appeared in court yesterday to answer charges of producing counterfeit bank notes.

Noel Frendo, 29, who is currently an inmate at Corradino Correctional Facility, and Grace Cini, 34, from Bugibba pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to circulate fake bank notes on 27 July and before.

Grace Cini alone was accused of actually producing the fake banks notes on a computer scanner. The prosecution said she had 100 fake Lm10 notes in her possession. She was also accused of handling stolen property.

Frendo was accused of knowingly aiding Cini to produce the notes, relapsing and committing a crime while under the operative period of a suspended prison sentence.

The court, presided over by magistrate Michael Mallia, granted bail to Grace Cini against a deposit of Lm500 and a personal guarantee of equal amount.

Police inspector Angelo Gafa prosecuted and Dr Shazoo Ghaznavi appeared for the defence.
