Basketball: National Teams selected for European Championships

The men’s and women’s teams were selected for the forthcoming European Championships.

The men’s team will take part in the qualifying round division B in September. Malta will face Ireland on September 3, and four days later will be in action in Slovakia.

The last commitment will be on September 10 against Switzerland.

The women’s team will play at Ta’ Qali against Bosnia on September 17, and Belarus in Minsk three days later. On September 23 the Maltese team will again be in action at Ta’ Qali against Norway.

The squads selected are as follows -

Men - Roderick Vella, Peter Shoults, Emanuele Lupo (Depiro), Michael Naudi, Etienne Bezzina (Pembroke), Ian Terribile, Steve Pace, David Camilleri, Omar Said (Hamrun), Marco Mercieca, Silvio Cassar, Steve Schembri, Dirk Schembri, Addison Bonnici, Chris Sammut, Anthony Heiuzer, Jean Paul Bonici, Louis Camilleri, Adrian Micallef (Luxol)

Women - Dorianne Galea, Joselle Cardona, Josephine Grima, Antoinette Borg, Sarah Pace, Greta Zarb, Abigail Sciberras (Depiro), Doreen Parnis, Beverlee Zammit, Alexis Darmanin (Hibs), Rachel Camillero, Kirsten Fee Micallef, Carolina Ann Fenech, Amanda Sciortino, Lara Chetcuti (Luxol), Sandra Schembri Wismayer (Naxxar), Josette Calleja (Kerygma)

The training programme for the men’s team Hill Stara on August 8, with the preparation for the women’s team starting nine days later.
