Once again, T.C.K. has been given the responsibility to host this year’s U14 Tennis European tournament in conjunction with the Malta Tennis Federation. Being a European ranking tournament, this event attracts many players of various nationalities and is a means of enhancing the reputation of the club for the organisation of such events.

This tournament is being held between 22 and 27 August. Due to the great number of entries, a qualifying round will be played on 20 and 21 August (Saturday and Sunday). This tournament is being sponsored by Simonds Farsons Cisk through their product “San Michel” table water.

The players for this event will be coming from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Holland, Russia, Switzerland, and Ukraine.

In the Boys event (U-14), 30 players will be taking part, among them the three promising Maltese players Malcom Ferrante, Jean Paul Schembri and Alan Calleja.

In the Girls’ U-14, Malta will be represented by seed No 1 Elaine Genovese, Kimberly Cassar and Brenda Galea.

Elaine Genovese has just returned from an extensive European tour where, with the collaboration of the Malta Tennis Federation, participated in five consecutive tournaments with very good results especially against the Turkish and Italian No1 seeds Dugan Tuqce and Barbieri Gioia, beating the first 6-4, 6-3 and closely losing against the Italian by the score 7-6, 6-4.

The TCK organising committee has appealed to all tennis officials with Chair and Umpiring experience to lend a helping hand towards the smooth running of this tournament.
