Qormi HC’s junior team recently won an Under 14 tournament, held in San Cataldo, Sicily.

It was the first time that a Maltese junior team had taken part in a tournament abroad.

Six teams took part in the second edition of the Trofeo TechMa, with the Qormi team being the only foreign side.

In the qualifying round, Malta had to play two teams from the host city. Qormi obtained two easy wins – 7-0 and 11-1. After topping the group, they played against the other group winners, CUS Messina, in the final, where the Greens emerged winners 9-1.

It is well to note that Messina are considered as the sixth team overall in Italy and they boast one Under 14 international among their ranks.

Apart from the tournament win, Keith Bonnici was voted as the player of the tournament.

After this successful participation, the Qormi Hockey Club is now aiming to organize an international tournament in Malta.

The Qormi HC contingent in Sicily was composed of the following: Aaron Spiteri, Ryan Brincat (captain), Sean Vella, Juan Sarcia, Zachary DeGiovanni, Luke Vella, Brian Cardona, Keith Calleja, Luke Brincat, Keith Bonnici, Thomas DeGiovanni, Andre Ghio (coach), Ramon Chircop (club official).

Keith Bonnici was the top scorer with 12 goals, six of them in the final. The other scorers were L. Vella 5, DeGiovanni 4, K. Calleja 3, R. Brincat 2 and L. Brincat.
