Canoeing: Chris Camilleri Off to Croatia

Malta Independent Thursday, 25 August 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Chris Camilleri leaves for 34th ICF Flatwater Racing World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.

Chris Camilleri left Malta last night to attend the International Canoe Federation Flatwater Racing World Championships being held in Zagreb, Croatia, between today and Sunday.

Following are the dates of the events in which Chris will participate:

Today - Morning - 1000m heats; Afternoon - 500m heats. Saturday - Morning - 200m heats

It is possible that Eurosport will transmit these events.

The Flatwater World Championships is the annual showcase for global canoeing and therefore Camilleri will have very tough competition from the elite of the great countries where canoeing has been one of the prime sports for over half a century.

Camilleri practised on a very strict programme for the championships and with the availability of a professional sprint kayak in that he was able to make a more specific preparation by working on its stability – a facility that was not available in Malta until a few weeks ago. The MCF therefore expects Camilleri to obtain results that compare or hopefully beat nations of Malta’s save level.

The MCF has expressed its gratitude towards the International Canoe Federation for sponsoring Camilleri’s participation.
