Elaine Genovese, ranked 65 in Europe and No 1 seed in the U-14 of the San Michel international tournament (cat 3) which is being held at Tennis Club Kordin, swept aside Mongano Anna Marie of Italy to reach the third round.

Elaine, who has just returned home after playing for one month in various tournaments, showed her mettle and experience to beat the Italian in three sets with the score of 6-0; 3-6; 6-0.

Elaine will now face the tall and strong Russian girl Bikchenteva Yulia this morning at nine.

The other Maltese players played very well and their level of play was equal to that of their opponents but they lacked experience.
