Elaine Genovese eased through to the final of the Under 14 San Michel international Open at the Kordin club yesterday, beating her Italian opponent Stefania Posterino in two straight sets 6-1; 6-0.

This unexpected result was mainly due to Elaine's prowess which kept Posterino glued to her baseline with powerful deep drives, especially down the line. The Maltese girl surprised all present with her winning attitude and her self-confidence throughout the whole match.

In the final she will be meeting Christine Mathis of Austria who won a ding-dong battle against Katerina Popova 7-5; 6-4. The final is to be played today starting at 5.30pm and a large crowd is expected to support the local girl.

In the Boys' section, the final will be an all Italian contest between Eros Siringo and his compatriot Ettore Zito who both reached the final stage by beating Lago Tomaso of Italy and Kushakov Oleksander of Ukrania respectively.

In the girls' doubles semi-final Kimberly Cassar/Larissa Schut beat Elaine Genovese/Natalia Giortsou with the score 2-6; 6-4; 7-5. and Jessica Courtnell/Amy Bowtel beat Gally De Weal/ Christine Mathis 6-2; 7-5.

The Maltese player Alan Calleja reached the final in the Consolation event.
