30-year-old ‘striscione’ Brought back home

Malta Independent Tuesday, 30 August 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Former club president Noel Enriquez has presented the club with the ‘striscione’ (picture above) that has been present for every game at Rome’s Olimpico.

The inaugural match was Bologna-Roma on the 27th October 1974 on that same day. Enriquez told the club members that Roma won the game 2-0 and this led to all the Roma banners being burned by Bologna ‘tifosi’. Later, the club recieved the news that the ‘striscione’ was saved by a group of Roma supporters from Tivoli. From that day till the present time, it was looked after by Roma supporters with great care as it had made history in the AS Roma ‘tifoseria’ .
