PN Remembers 25 years of Solidarnosc

Malta Independent Thursday, 1 September 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Nationalist Party commemorated 25 years from the foundation of the first free trade union in Poland, ‘Solidarnosc’, stating that it was one of the instruments that eventually managed to bring down the spectre of communism in Europe.

The PN said that the union’s founder, Lech Walesa, and his compatriots were ready to face every consequence so that the majority could have their say against the dictatorship that ruled Poland with an iron fist at the time.

The PN also reflected that Solidarnosc was an inspiration to all in Malta who were experiencing similar threats to liberty. “Today that we are in Europe, we can really believe that Walesa’s dream has become reality,” the PN added.

The PN paid tribute to all those who died or suffered under Communist or extreme Socialist regimes in the past years.
