Traffic was chaotic in Marsa and the major roads leading to the area yesterday after the bend off Aldo Moro Street in front of the Super One studios was closed to traffic due to a street party that was organised last night.

The party involved the setting up of a stage in the middle of the road, which meant that traffic had to be rerouted round the Marsa industrial estate. Moreover, four-lane traffic was reduced to one lane which created great congestion.

The tail-backs were massive, with traffic coming from the roundabout on the outskirts of Santa Lucia, from Cottonera and, at the other end from Blata l-Bajda and the Santa Venera tunnels practically gridlocked for long stretches.

Traffic police were present to direct the flow, but there was little that could be done given the circumstances.
