The Maltese senior, Under 21 and women’s national teams will be going through a hectic six days between tomorrow and next Wednesday.

Addressing a news conference yesterday, MFA senior vice-president Carmelo Bartolo, said the seniors and the Under 21s will be involved in two qualifiers – against Hungary at the weekend and Croatia between Tuesday and Wednesday – while the women’s team will be facing their Croatian counterparts on Tuesday, just before the Under 21 clash.

The contingent for the Hungary matches leaves today with president Dr Joseph Mifsud leading the seniors team, and Bartolo the Under 21 squad.

Describing the matches as very tough obstacles, Bartolo added that the recent performance against Northern Ireland in a friendly at Ta’ Qali was quite encouraging.

He reiterated that Hungary have a great tradition in European football, while Croatia are now considered as one of the giants in Europe.

He said: “Past results against the two nations give us hope. With true commitment and a good performance, we should be able to offer decent opposition and confirm our recent progress.”

Near the end of his speech, Bartolo appealed to local football enthusiasts to give their full support to the team.

He then announced the prices for Wednesday’s match at Ta’ Qali: Enclosure – Lm4 and Millennium Stand – Lm3. Women, children, Kartanzjan holders and persons with special needs will pay just Lm1.50c at the Millennium Stand only.
