MFA president Dr Joe Mifsud told the association’s Council that Ta’ Qali Stadium damages after the Malta-Croatia rioting were estimated to be between Lm8,000 and Lm10,000.

In a letter to FIFA, giving its own version of the incidents, the MFA stated that 695 seats were ripped off, of which 675 were from the sector occupied by the Croatian supporters.

Dr Mifsud said the Croatians had again admitted during last week’s FIFA Congress in Morocco that their fans were responsible for the incidents and promised to compensate the Malta FA.

The FIFA Commissioner for the match had sent a report to FIFA and the world body had asked for the two associations’ versions of the incidents.

It also asked FIFA to acquit the association from any responsibility for what happened. It also enclosed copies of apologetic letters from the Croatian Federation and Croatian Government authorities. The MFA’s letter to FIFA also said that most of the 103 Croatians who had been arraigned in court had admitted to the charges brought against them.
