Delia Penalty strike give St George’s second consecutive win

St George's beat St Andrew's with a solitary goal in a low profile match, to register their second consecutive win of the season. The all important goal was scored by veteran Jesmond Delia from the penalty spot just before half time. But the victory should have assumed larger proportions as St George's missed a couple of easy chances in front of goal.

The St Andrew's offside trap provided fertile ground for the St George's strikers, as many a time the St Andrew's defence was caught on the wrong foot. However the first shots on goal came from St Andrew's with Michael Borg Olivier and Ian Borg slightly missing the target.

On six minutes St George's were unlucky when a Lagana thunderous shot slammed against the crossbar. St Andrew's had their best chance on 24 minutes - Gatt denying Anthony Galea with a splendid save.

Four minutes before the break St George's went ahead when Silvio Sciberras was floored by Anthony Galea and from the resultant penalty Jesmond Delia made no mistake with a powerful rising shot.

In the second half St George's missed a golden opportunity through Lagana, with St Andrew's hitting back through two dangerous shots by Rashid, with the first shot being beautifully saved by Gatt.

Near the end St George's continued to waste golden opportunities in front of goal with Darmanin and Trevor Thomas the main culprits.
