Senglea Athletic FC secretary Daniel Genovese has resigned from his post following the 3-2 defeat at the hands of Naxxar Lions in the club’s second match this season in the Bank of Valletta first division.

In his letter of resignation to the president of the club, Michael Mercieca, he said it was a pity that a section of the club’s supporters make committee members of a society or a club their target when something goes wrong. He added that he never imagined that after such a result, he had to be escorted in fear considering that his family had also been threatened due to the situation that evolved.

Genovese also said that it was not fair for the members of the committee of the club to be insulted and threatened by fans throughout the match as was the case on Sunday.

Near the end of his resignation letter, Genovese appealed to those who showered criticism to take his place and also said he hoped that such an incident will never be repeated. He also appealed to the fans to work hand in hand with the committee for the good of the whole Senglea Athletic FC squad.
