Intimate Letters – A series of musical evenings

Malta Independent Friday, 30 September 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The words and the notes of some of the world’s favourite composers are the inspiration behind a series of concerts being produced by St James Cavalier in the coming weeks.

Intimate Letters, as the series is called, begins on 3 October with the letters of young Mozart writing to his father as he travels through Europe.

The letters give an insight into the love/hate relationship between father and son as Leopold Mozart tried to give direction to his son’s career while Wolfgang pushed on, trying not to offend his father.

Coupled with these readings are three of Mozart’s most popular chamber works, Serenade in G major Eine Kliene Nacht Muzik (A Little Night Music), String Quintet No. 3 in G minor and String Quartet No. 19 in C major – Dissonance.

This will be performed by the ProMuzika ensemble with Sarah Spiteri and Stephen Zammit on Violin, Stephen Galea and Guido Mamo on viola and Mario Psaila on cello.

The performance will be held in the courtyard of the Auberge D’Italie (The Tourism and Culture Ministry), Merchant Street, Valletta, at 8pm. Tickets at Lm5 and Lm3 (concession) can be booked from the St James Cavalier box office on 2122-3200 or email [email protected]. Early booking is advised.
