Le Méridien St Julian’s, a waterfront complex by the global hotel group Le Méridien Hotels and Resorts, will open its doors on 1 March 2006. The second Le Méridien Hotel on the island will comprise 276 well-appointed rooms.

The five-star Le Méridien St Julian’s is located in the grounds of a 19th century villa, in the Balluta Bay area of St Julian’s.

The hotel, with its sublime blend of contemporary design, reflects the distinctive architecture of the surrounding area. Bedrooms will feature a balcony or terrace, with stunning sea or country views.

The signature restaurant of Le Méridien St Julian’s will be the Villa Brasserie. Located in the newly-renovated 19th century Villa Cassar Torreggiani, it will offer contemporary Mediterra-nean cuisine, created by Michelin-star French chef Michel Rostang. In addition the hotel will also offer a range of healthy and tempting dining options throughout its five indoor and outdoor restaurants and bars.

The Conference Centre (1,600 square metres) with its 14 meeting rooms on one level, including a fixed seat amphitheatre and a dedicated business centre, provides the best solution for conference organisers. The large landscaped terrace will be ideal for outside events and the centre will be complemented by three floors of executive bedrooms.

To relax body and soul, the Lotus Spa & Health, one of the largest on the island, will offer an indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, male and female hammam steam rooms, gymnasium, squash court and beauty treatment rooms. These leisure facilities will be complemented by the rooftop swimming pool and sundeck with panoramic views over the island’s coastline.

According to Benjamin Sington, general manager, Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts Malta: “We are excited about receiving the hotel from the developers this year, in preparation for the 1 March opening. The hotel is very well laid out for guests. Bedrooms commence from the 4th floor, enhancing their views; conferences can be private on their own floor; the Lobby Bar has fabulous outside terracing overlooking the bay; the Lotus Spa & Health is unique in Malta with expansive airy spaces, adorned with Balinese columns and artefacts; and the Villa at the entrance of the hotel is going to be a new landmark on the Malta food scene.”

Le Méridien St Julian’s will join Le Méridien Phoenicia, located just outside Valletta and the addition of the new hotel next Spring will bring the total number of Le Méridien’s hotel rooms in Malta to 412.
