Malta Independent Tuesday, 4 October 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Malta’s Tony Drago reached the last 16 of the German Open in Furth at the weekend, but was eliminated in that round yesterday as he went down 3-0 to Michael Holt.

He won qualifying group matches against Bjorn Jahnke, Markus Hertle and Jorg Jager to reach the second round, where he eliminated Ernst Seckes 3-0.

His next victim, in round 3, was Chris Gnamm, as Drago again won 3-0. In round 4, Drago beat Yvan Leus 3-0.

Meanwhile, Paul Hunter made a welcome return at this tournament. The 26-year-old from Leeds was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year but is winning his battle against the disease following five cycles of chemotherapy.

Hunter, however, was also eliminated yesterday, as he was beaten 3-0 by Stuart Bingham.
