The Gordon Asciak Tennis School juniors squad has returned to Malta from Palermo where they took part in some events with a relative amount of encouraging results.

The eleven juniors played three matches each and some of them won all their encounters.

In Palermo, the Maltese also played against TC Pallone with the Asciak School Group winning

9-2.

The Italian coaches were very impressed with 11-year-old Brenda Galea, who has made a vast improvement over last year.

During their stay in Palermo, the Maltese were also able to watch the ATP tournament at the Tennis Club Palermo 1.

Matthew Asciak had a great new experience as he was given a wild card to take part in the qualifying event of the 323,000 euro event.

Matthew, 15, was drawn against 24-year-old No. 4 seed Faurel of France and lost 6-0, 6-2.

Some of the players taking part in this tournament included well known names such as Tommy Robredo, Juan Carlos Ferrero and world No. 19 David Ferrer.

The Maltese contingent in Palermo was under the charge of former Malta champion Helen Asciak, a coach at the Gordon Asciak Tennis School
