Bank of Valletta is sponsoring the Maltese Team ‘Team Malta’, in the 32nd annual edition of the friendly battle between selections of Maltese golfers and ‘The Rest’.

The competitions are taking place over these three days. It started yesterday and comes to an end tomorrow. “The Sword” as the match is affectionately known, is symbolised by a magnificent limited edition Wilkinson sword which was presented to the Royal Malta Golf Club by the British Residents Association in 1973, to be played for by teams made up of Maltese Nationals versus a team representing expatriates living in Malta.

Bank of Valletta’s sponsorship was presented by Victor Denaro, Chief Officer IT to Victor Satariano, Captain of the Royal Malta Golf Club as well as Team Malta.

Speaking during the presentation, Denaro said ‘Bank of Valletta recognises the importance of outdoor activities and is delighted to support such initiatives.

“Our financial help forms part of Bank of Valletta’s mission to assist the community in which it operates and this sponsorship is therefore a contribution that will seek to enhance golfing on our island.”

Satariano thanked Bank of Valletta for its support and explained how over the years golfing in Malta has developed and the format of the match changed. Satariano further said that this is the 32nd edition of the match, with Malta winning 15, The Rest 14 and three matches halved.

The Maltese team is made up of Victor Satariano (captain), Nicholas Beck, Christopher Bergedahl, Kim Borg, Maurice Gruppetta, Nick Laferla, Alex Mangion, Peter Satariano, Nicky Urpani, Edward Sullivan, Joseph Sullivan and Alfred Zammit.
