The olympic creed
‘The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.’
The words of the Olympic creed are attributed to Baron de Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games.
The Olympic Motto is Citius, Altius, Fortius in Latin; it means faster, higher, braver, but is universally accepted to mean Swifter, Higher, Stronger.
The Olympic Movement 776 BC the first Olympic Games was held in Greece. The games have evolved and at the 2004 Olympics, events were held in 28 sports. In recent years, the IOC has added several new sports to the programme such as snowboarding and beach volleyball, to attract attention from young spectators. These are changes that were done in order to improve the Olympics.
