After 17 weeks of the current MTBA National League at the Eden SuperBowl, Fina First appear to be unstoppable, having picked up another full-point victory from their match against Right Deal.
Aercomms dropped two points against Storm II (6-2) allowing the leaders to slip a further two points ahead, stretching their lead to 13 points.
The biggest series of the week went to fourth placed Fina Excel, who proved too strong for Globalair Travel, rolling a big 2,426 total to cruise to a 0-8 victory. It was also full points for New Blood (third) against Sammy’s Embroideries, while Ramis took six from Fireballs, as did O’Caseys against Alley Catz.
Fina Excel had no problems in disposing of Globlair Travel (seventh), the latter never being close to making the score board throughout the three games. Game one ended 755-827, and Excel’s lead was extended to 187 pins after they took game two 679-794. The hammering was completed with a 723-805 winner to give Excel a 2,426 tally for the series. Brian Farrugia (Fina Excel), 630. Clive Saliba (Globalair Travel), 552.
Leaders Fina Excel also claimed all eight points from their match against Right Deal who are currently ninth. It was a poor start for both teams as Fina First struggled to a 715 against their opponents’ even weaker 659 effort.
Things were a little better, and closer in game two which Fina took 751-729, before rounding off with a 755-652 win to make sure of all eight points. Steve Cassar (Fina First), 579. Shawn Bugeja (Right Deal), 525.
Chasers Aercomms faced eighth placed Storm II in week 17, getting off to the ideal start by easily winning game one 802-706. Storm II could have levelled things in the second of the set but Aercomms just managed to push ahead with a tight 756-742 winner. The defending champions may have assumed that a 100% win was in the bag, but Storm II refused to roll over, taking a two-point share of the spoils with a 762-784 result in game three.
New Blood are still hanging on to the third trophy position, serving up a 0-8 beating to Sammy’s Embroideries who can’t seem to lift themselves from the relegation zone. Gordon Naudi (New Blood), 576. Kurt Camilleri (Sammy’s Embroideries), 514.
Ramis stay fifth after a majority win over bottom side Fireballs this week. John Balani (Ramis), 558. Dean Micallef (Fireballs), 584.
There was a rare win for O’Casey’s in the final confrontation of the night, Alley Catz finishing on the losing side. Nathan Brimmer (Alley Catz), 552. Nikolai Borg (O’Casey’s), 526.
