Sliema ASC have a new president. He is their former prolific player, coach and team manager Michael Gatt, who will be replacing Michael Soler.

Soler was a well known figure in local waterpolo. He was considered to be one of the greatest goalkeepers the game has ever offered.

As a player he won all honours with Sliema. He also played for the national side in the 1970s and 1980s in what must be described as an illustrious career.

He was president of the club for the past 13 years and led the side to win all local major honours as well as leading the side to play in the European club competitions on some occasions.

Gatt took over after being elected at the annual general meeting. Soler was, in fact, asked by the members to stay on for another year, but he declined.

Gatt's first task next season will be the winter league, if it is staged, but the main target will be the summer league title, which they lost to Sirens the past summer.
