In the first game of the day, Floriana Young Stars started the game better and as early as the second minute, they had already threatened the Qormi goal when Agius Darmanin rounded Chircop in the Qormi goal but from a tight angle could only push wide.

On 12 minutes the same player put his side in the lead when he was quick to take advantage from a rebound of the goalkeeper. Agius Darmanin was causing all sorts of problems for the Qormi defence as he set up Ryan Gatt who failed to contact with the cross.

On the half hour it was the Qormi goalkeeper who blocked another attempt by Agius Darmanin. Almost on the stroke of half time Qormi created their best chance but Sandro Bartolo placed wide after being put through on his own thanks to a lifted ball over the Young Stars defence.

Young Stars remained the better side in the second half even though Qormi forced an early short corner following some good play by Sandro Bartolo.

Young Stars, however, kept on creating numerous chances and it was inevitable that they would increase the score.

On 20 minutes following a short corner action, Camilleri’s flick was saved by Chircop but Young Stars captain, Charles Micallef, was on hand to flick in the rebound.

Qormi’s reaction failed to materialise and Chircop came to their rescue when he saved twice off Ryan Gatt. A minute from time this young attacker was not to be denied when he bounce on another rebound to beat Chircop.

Champions White Hart had little trouble in overcoming Britannia Tours White Hart in the second match. They dominated from start to finish as they notched up one short corner after another.

They forced their first short corner after 23 minutes after Tua had taken on three Rabat defenders but Rabat took the ball up the other end and opened the score, Kevin Micallef concluding a short corner move.

On the stroke of half time Rabat doubled their score this time it was Seychell who closed another short corner move.

What little problems were being caused to the Rabat defence were coming from Carl Tua but it was Rabat who scored the next goal when Josef Antonelli did all on his own and beat Galea from just inside the dee.

At this point Rabat seemed to relax as White Hart started to exchange play but almost on the half hour, after their claims for a penalty went unanswered, Rabat scored their fourth.

Kevin Micallef doing all the damage and Josef Antonelli the finishing. Two minutes later it was Tua who was impeded in the dee for a White Hart stroke.

Veteran David Agius however pushed wide. Simon Agius then saw his hit saved by the Rabat goalkeeper and finally, two minutes from time, White Hart got their consolation goal.

Not surprisingly it was Tua who created the chance with Chris Mintoff getting the final touch.
