Following this result, Attard are on 12 points from seven games while Zebbug are bottom-placed with only one point in Section B.

Zebbug must thank their ‘keeper Clifford Borg who saved them from a much heavier defeat.

The first action came from Zebbug when Mark Cilia crossed to Charles Zammit but Attard’ keeper Justin Saliba saved the latter’s’ cross shot. Attard soon reacted by creating four goalscoring opportunities in a row.

Zebbug opened the score on 27 minutes through Mark Cilia who netted with a lobbed ball after a Matthew Borg II through pass. Borg then foiled Mark Saliba with a timely sortie after a Bugeja through ball. Scerri put Saliba through, Borg partially saved his shot and the ball was cleared to a corner.

Attard dominated the second period. Daniel Agius put Saliba through but ‘keeper Borg denied him with a driving save he then saved on Agius after being served by Saliba. Attard were awarded a penalty on 57 minutes when Agius was tripped in the area by Tonio Farrugia. Saliba took charge of the kick with Borg saving partially and a defender cleared the ball, but a minute later they managed to equalise through Agius who scored with a grounder after a Saliba through ball.

On 60 minutes Attard were awarded another penalty as Philip Seguna handled the ball in the area after a Mark Saliba cross and Matthew Fenech made no mistake from the spot.

Seven minutes from the end Attard put the issue beyond any doubt when Fenech won a loose ball in Zebbug’s half and netted with a fine rising shot from outside the area.

Luqa 1

Lija – Iklin 3

Lija-Iklin deserved the verdict, as they were the better outfit throughout the whole 60 minutes.

Mariolino Bugeja pounced on a faulty clearance but his shot missed Luqa’s upright and Darren Vella Bugeja through but Luqa ‘keeper Chris Bianco saved his shot.

Luqa reacted with a through pass from Jason Good to Jonathan Falzon and Lija-Iklin ‘keeper Neil Mangion came out of his charge to clear the ball up field.

At the other end, Joseph Farrugia put Ryan Muscat through but a Bianco neutralised the latter’s’ cross. Lija-Iklin opened the score on 16 minutes through Bugeja who netted with a grounder after a David Attard perfect through ball.

Luqa equalised on 28 minutes from a free-kick shot by Good who scored with a rising shot from 25 metres.

Two minutes after restart Lija-Iklin regained their one-goal lead with a flag-kick by Darren Vella. The ball was partially cleared and substitute Daniel Schembri hit home the rebound.

From a good flag-kick Mangion saved a header by Maverick Ciantar. Joseph Pace of Lija-Iklin was shown a yellow card for time wasting by referee Calleja who had good control of the proceedings.

Eight minutes before the end Lija-Iklin put the issue beyond doubt when Bugeja pounced on a defensive indecision and scored with a grounder.
