2005 Cynergy Powered by Eurosport Squash Open

Malta Independent Saturday, 12 November 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

This year’s Cynergi powered by Eurosport squash Open takes place on Saturday.

Over 32 players in two separate categories have entered.

The ‘A’ event, for experienced tournament players, is headed by defending champion Ivan Balzan and last year’s beaten finalist Karl Grech Orr. Balzan has won both events so far this season and will be looking to maintain his unbeaten run.

The ladies national team, fresh from their excellent performance in Cyprus, will once again all be taking part. The ladies have already started their preparation for next year’s small nations tournament in Luxembourg and will be aiming to go one better. Events such as the Cynergi powered by Eurosport squash open are a vital part of the team’s preparation.

The newly formed ‘B’ event for players with less experience has again proved a success. With 16 players taking part, half of them playing a tournament for the first time, it shows once again the present popularity of squash in Malta.

Mark Seychell one of Malta’s leading junior players will be aiming to ‘mix it’ with some of the older more experienced players and gain some vital match practice against tougher opposition.

Play starts at 10am today with the finals scheduled for around 6pm.
