Football: Melita Cable And GFA sign three-year sponsorship deal

Melita Cable will, for the coming three consecutive football seasons, be the official sponsor of the Gozo Football Association’s League as well as the GFA’s player of the month.

This agreement was formalised yesterday during an official signing ceremony and press conference at the Westin Dragonara Resort in St. Julian’s. The agreement was signed by Joe Cordina, President of the GFA, and Franco Degabriele, Head of Sales and Marketing on behalf of Melita.

Addressing the press conference, Degabriele expressed his satisfaction at the successful conclusion of this agreement with the Gozo Football Association. “We are pleased that Melita will now be associated with Football in Gozo”. We acknowledge that football is widely followed in Gozo and that there is a lot of talent in the sister island that deserves support and encouragement”

Degabriele also said that Melita is enthusiastic in entering in this sponsorship agreement with the intent to support the association in its endeavours to improve football in Gozo. It hopes that the funds will help in improving the standards in Gozo and also hopes that more attention will be given to youth sections.

Degabriele remarked: “As an ex-player who played with Xaghra United and Victoria Hotspurs, I have experienced the enthusiasm and dedication of Gozitan clubs and support and I’m sure that with this agreement the association will continue to producing a compelling league to the thousands of Gozitans who follow the game”.

He added that these supporters will benefit from being a Melita Digital or Onvol subscriber as a discount scheme is being put in place whereby subscribers will be paying less to watch GFA games at the stadium. In fact a 20% discount will be given on admission into the Gozo Stadium to all the company’s subscribers.

GFA President Joe Cordina and the Secretary General of the Association Alvin Grech also addressed the press conference.

Mr. Cordina explained that the from now on the Gozo Premier League will now be called ONVOL Premier League. He also gave details regarding the Award of Player of the month. Melita will also be sponsoring the player of the month award being called the Melita Digital Player of the Month Award.

The GFA President expressed his satisfaction at the positive conclusion of this agreement that will see Melita supporting the most followed sport in Gozo. “We are extremely satisfied that Melita is associating itself with the GFA and we are confident that this new collaboration will be beneficial to both parties. We are proud to have such a prestigious name supporting us throughout the coming three football seasons and we are sure that having Melita as the official sponsor will contribute towards the success of the Gozo First Division League,” he said.
