Marsa CC had mixed fortuens over the week. On Tuesday they played the fourth game against Bradstad and Sundridge. After winning the toss Marsa elected to bat.

Gordon Hewitt opened the batting and made a gallant 36 runs including a big six over the square leg boundary. Tim Wheeler batted extremely well for his 72 runs including 11 fours. The best innings came from Alan Kyle who hit 50 runs off 40 balls with one six. Aided with 35 extras Marsa totalled 236 runs. For the visitors T.Ervine was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets for 30 runs off four overs.

The visitors chased well with opener Vinnie Reynolds hitting 53 runs and M.Toms 46 runs. N.Hubbard scored well with 33 runs and D.Holden 29 runs not out. The visitors fell short by 23 runs. For Marsa Michael Caruana was the pick of the bowlers taking two wickets. Marsa won the game and the series four games to nil.

On Saturday Marsa CC played against Krishna CC in the first game of the 25 over winter league.

Krishna won the toss and elected to bat. M.G. Sacco opened the batting and made 52 runs and retired (local rule for winter league). Angelo Spiteri also retired with 50 runs.

Mike Smith batted well for 22 runs. Marsa’s bowling was wayward and gave away 39 extras. Krishna totalled 192 runs of their allotted overs.

Marsa tried hard to chase the total and were doing well with openers Mike Caruana and Jaya Krishna taking it to the bowlers.

Finally Jaya was caught in the deep by Mike Smith off the bowling of Sagar Krishna. Caruana went on to retire on 51 runs. Ronnie Sacco batted well for 26 runs.

Marsa could only manage 130 runs. Krishna won the first game. Krishna earned nine points for the win while Marsa only managed one point.

Next Saturday the two teams battle it again starting at 12.30pm.
