A Cleaven Frendo hat-trick gave Marsaxlokk an emphatic win over battling Mosta in a keenly contested match. The best of the match was in the first half with Marsaxlokk creating many scoring chances but they failed to capitalise with Gomes the main culprit.

In the second half Mosta played the better football, and it was now Chibueze's turn to miss the chance to obtain the equaliser, missing two easy chances in front of goal.

Mosta under the guidance of coach Charles Agius played a good game, never giving away an inch against a more technical side. However Mosta's defensive lapses in the first half let them down.

Marsaxlokk played some good flowing football in the first half with Kevin Sammut and Shaun Bajada in the limelight. Cleaven Frendo was sharp in front of goal and was instrumental for his side.

Marsaxlokk had a dream start when on the 4th minute they took the lead. Cleaven Frendo direct from a free-kick beat goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.

Mosta suffered this early setback and they almost suffered the second goal four minutes later but Bajada's lob went over the bar following a good Frendo move.

Mosta's first attempt was from Jonathan Caruana who shot over the bar. On 15 minutes Marsaxlokk doubled the score when the South-seasiders made full use of a Mosta defensive blunder. Spasic passed to the hesitant Newell, and Frendo nipped in dribbled past the goalkeeper to slot in an empty net.

A minute later Mosta went close to reducing the score with a Dyson Falzon header following some good work by Philp Camilleri. On 19 minutes a another good move from Mosta with Udo Nwoko going past Wellman but his dangerous shot hit the side netting.

On 24 minutes Wendell Gomes missed a sitter in front of goal when Bajada did all the spade work, but Gomes failed to shoot in front of goal with Farrugia blocking in time.

Marsalokk paid dearly for this miss as Mosta came back into the match, with a fine move started by Scriha who passed to Philip Camilleri who again passed to the Mosta captain who scored with a low drive.

Wendell Gomes was again the main culprit as he missed two other easy chances in front of goal minutes later. Mosta left gaping spaces at the back with Schembri missing another glaring chance in front of goal.

Goal scoring chances kept flowing freely with Chibueze's shot skimming the crossbar following a Wellman defensive lapse.

On 32 minutes Andre Schembri made his way inside the area but his shot was brilliantly saved by Farrugia.

The second period was completely different from the first half with no decent actions in the first fifteen minutes. On the hour Mosta almost obtained the equaliser with a good combination between Nwoko and Chibueze with the latter's shot hit the side netting.

Minutes later goalkeeper Debono had to charge out position to block Chibueze.

Mosta introduced Bilocca and continued to press forward to obtain the equaliser. They went close on two occasions with Debono effecting two incredible saves off a Falzon freekick and on Chibueze's rebound.

On 79 minutes Chibueze failed to score in front of goal with Bilocca's final shot hitting the side netting.

A minute later against the run of play Marsaxlokk sealed the issue when they obtained a penalty when Andre Schembri was floored by Spasic.

From the resultant penalty Cleven Frendo made no mistake to clinch his hat-trick.
