Finalists Croatia And Slovakia announce rosters

Malta Independent Wednesday, 23 November 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic was included in Croatia’s squad yesterday for next month’s Davis Cup final against Slovakia.

Ivanisevic, who retired from the ATP circuit four years ago, is likely to play doubles – if at all – in the 2-4 December contest in Bratislava.

Croatia captain Nikki Pilic also picked Ivan Ljubicic, Mario Ancic and Ivo Kralovic.

Ivanisevic retired from the men’s tour – mostly because of shoulder problems – soon after winning Wimbledon as a wild card in 2001. He played doubles in the 2003 Davis Cup against the United States and is active on the veterans’ circuit.

Slovakia will be represented by Dominik Hrbaty, Karol Beck, Michal Mertinak and Karol Kucera.

Croatia and Slovakia are first-time Davis Cup finalists. Both came through last year’s play-offs to earn a place in the 2005 World Group.
