Water Services Corporation will not be sacking any of its employees but it will be allocating its human resources according to the corporation’s needs, the WSC said yesterday.
In its statement, the corporation said many WSC workers are not employed with the Water Services Corporation, but are government employees who are “detailed” with the corporation. As such, the corporation said, the government had every right to assign these workers duties elsewhere.
The corporation was replying to a statement issued by the GWU that claimed the WSC would be downsizing its workforce.
The WSC said a request for a meeting made by the union’s public sector section was agreed to last Thursday and the meeting will be held today, contrary to what the GWU said it its statement.
“The implication that a number of workers are going to lose their job is a complete fabrication that will only serve to needlessly alarm the employees.
The Water Services corporation has managed to increase its efficiency to such an extent that it can make do with fewer employees.
Given these circumstances the corporation feels that it would be unfair to both its consumers and the country, if its water production and distribution costs were to be artificially inflated simply due to salaries being paid to employees it no longer requires,” the corporation said.
