The indoor shooting programme prepared by the Archery Association of Malta got off to a big start last Saturday with yet another national record from John Pace shooting in the Compound Division.

Luke Pellicano, shooting in the Junior Recurve Division also equalled his own national record when he shot an aggregate score of 508 on the 18-metre distance.

For the third time in less than two months, Pace broke the national record for the 18-metre distance when he shot an aggregate score of 579 out of a maximum of 600. The previous record of 572 was established by Dion Buhagiar more than three years back but was improved by one point last September by Pace who again raised the record temporarily to 575 in October just before the latter took part and also won an international tournament in Germany.

In second place in the same category, Tony Falzon followed with Dion Buhagiar finishing in third.

In the male Recurve Division, Sebastian Aquilina topped the tables with 508 with Dominic Grima finishing in a close second whilst Maria Formosa, with a score of 439, also finished leading the tables in the female recurve division.

In the Junior Recurve Division, Luke Pellicano confirmed his current good form when he finished first with a remarkable score of 508 whilst Daniel Mangion and Jonathan Ellul came in second and third place with a score of 418 and 399 respectively.

The competition was judged by Mr John Collins while Mr John Schembri was Director of Shoot.

The next indoor competition at the Association’s range in Pembroke is due to be held next Saturday at 3.30pm.
