Naxxar Lions stopped the negative trend of four consecutive defeats, by beating San Gwann in a highly interesting match. Naxxar were worthy winners to gain three valuable points to move from bottom placing.

The Lions had a dream start going in the lead after only three minutes. Jose Borg floated a perfect cross from the right and striker Chima Dozie rose above friends and foe to head home.

A minute later San Gwann almost obtained an immediate equaliser when Anizoba started his show but his shot was saved by Cini. Minutes later the same Cini denied Anizoba with another save.

On 21 minutes Naxxar doubled the score when San Gwann defender Stacy Vella failed to clear and Simon Muscat shot home from close range.

Naxxar had another good chance with Simon Muscat crossing to Gilbert Camilleri, but the latter's shot went wide.

Just before the break both teams had good scoring opportunities with Karl Sciberras hitting the crossbar for San Gwann, and with Dozie denied by a brilliant Cini save.

In the second half, on 65 minutes Chima Dozie, had a brilliant run halted by the San Gwann goalkeeper Bartolo, and from the resultant penalty the same Dozie made no mistake.

Naxxar made it four when Simon Muscat, one of the Lions' best, finished off a fast counter attack in style.

St Andrew's obtained the first victory of the season when they beat Lija Athletic in an interesting encounter played under a consistent downpour . This victory enabled St Andrew's to move from the bottom of the table for the first time this season, leaving their opponents anchored at the bottom.

Lija opened the score on six minutes when Gozitan striker shot home from close range a long cross from Nicky Gatt. Two minutes later St. Andrew's went very close when Sank was unlucky when he hit the crossbar. On 20 minutes Lija went close again with another John Camilleri header missing the target. On 29 minutes St. Andrew's obtained a deserved equaliser when Rashid went inside the area dribbled past goalkeeper Mercieca and scored in an empty net.

Seven minutes later St. Andrew's forged ahead, when Junior Sank surprised the opposing goalkeeper direct from a freekick. Just before the break Lija could have snatched the equaliser but John Camilleri was denied by a brilliant Debono save.

At the start of the second half St Andrew's scored the third goal when Brian Chetcuti scored from an acute angle after receiving from Rashid.

Lija did not give up easily and came back into the game on 67 minutes when John Camilleri headed in beautifully a Giles Lanzon freekick. Lija pushed everything forward in search of a dramatic equaliser, but St Andrew's defended well with their goalkeeper Debono above the rest. The Saints had to play the last six minutes with a man less when substitute Tyron Ghirxi was shown two yellow cards in quick succession.
