Sportiva is the name of a new weekly sports newspaper, which came to life yesterday with the publication of the first edition.
After several years, Maltese sports enthusiasts will again have a newspaper, where all the pages will be dedicated to sport.
The editor will be Glenn Bedingfield, better known in the political field until a few months ago, while the deputy editor is Victor Battistino, who worked in the Ministry for Sports until a few years ago.
Addressing a news conference yesterday morning at the newspaper’s offices in Qormi, Bedingfield said the paper will focus on all kind of sports and not just football.
He said he hoped it would receive the required support from all sports enthusiasts, adding that the group hoped that it would continue being published for many years.
Battistino said the newspaper would offer no challenge to the other daily newspapers. “What we are after is offering a service to the readers, providing previews of the activities being held at weekends in an effort to try to attract them to the various venues around the island.
The newspaper will be on sale every Friday.
