Local Football: Victor Sciriha May be next Valletta president

Malta Independent Sunday, 4 December 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

It was learned yesterday that former Marsaxlokk president Victor Sciriha (pictured) is being lured to join Valletta FC.

But the move might only take place in the summer as at present, he is still somehow committed to Marsaxlokk indirectly.

Marsaxlokk’s two forthcoming matches in the League, against Birkirkara and Valletta, are thought to be crucial. If the southern seasiders win them both, they will again go on a shopping spree in January to strengthen the squad and make a bold effort to win their first ever league title.

Only one name has been mentioned so far, apart from Camenzuli. Brazilian midfielder Andre Da Silva, formerly of Floriana and now with Tarxien, is one of their targets. However, with Tarxien having a good chance for promotion, it is not known whether they will be prepared to release the talented midfielder.

If he is allowed to move on to the south seasiders, his arrival there will force Marsaxlokk to probably leave Bart Williams on the sidelines or come to an amicable agreement with him to terminate his three-year contract.

Marsaxlokk also seem to have had some form of contact with Malta goalkeeper Justin Haber who is playing in France. So far the goalie has not given the club any indication that he is prepared to return to Maltese football immediately, but he could be the ideal replacement if Gauci had to join Birkirkara.
