Anita Mercieca Bons, 20, the Sliema ASC swimming squad head coach, has recently obtained international certification for teaching swimming by the British Amateur Swimming Association. Mercieca Bons attended a two week intensive training course in Wiltshire, UK, this summer.
The training course aims at preparing coaches to be able to teach any kind of ability. It was divided into practical sessions of 2 hours per day and very intensive theory lectures. Mercieca Bons was required to take a practical as well as a theoretical examination at the end of the course. She was successful in both categories and she was awarded the certificate of accomplishment.
Mercieca Bons is now fully qualified to a level 2 Swimming Coach by the British Amateur Swimming Association, and this certification enables her to teach swimming anywhere in the world.
She was assigned the task of heading the Sliema swimming team last year and in order to improve her skills, she immediately enrolled into two courses. In fact, prior to attending the course in England, Mercieca Bons completed successfully another course titled Foundations of Coaching, run by the University of Malta.
This course ran over 12 weeks, and covered a number of modules.
Sliema ASC has congratulated Mercieca Bons on her achievements, which go in no small way towards a long and successful coaching career.
