Maltese referee Bernard Vassallo has been appointed by FIBA to control a European club competition match in Italy today.

The match is the return clash between Polisportiva Ares Ribera and Leon Incosa of Spain. Last Thursday they played in Spain with Ribera winning narrowly 66-63.

Vassallo will referee the match together with Greek official Nikos Agadakos. The FIBA Commissioner will be Slovakia’s Marjan Hafner.

Last week, Vassallo had been selected to form part of the first group of Potential Referees in a FIBA project launched for the first time this season.

FIBA has chosen 40 referees from its list of international referees and divided them into groups under specialised coaches for referees, all former officials with a vast array of experience.

Vassallo is under the guidance of Hungarian Zsolt Hartyani.
