Hibernians obtained their sixth successive win after beating main rivals Birkirkara 2-0 last Sunday. Melita returned to winning form after beating Mosta 2-1.
Despite enjoying territorial superiority for most of the first half, the Paola girls failed to open the scoring and had to wait till the second half to turn their superiority into goals.
It was Carabott who finally broke the deadlock seven minutes into the second half. And in the 67th minute, they sealed their win with a Tonna goal.
Melita’s win over Mosta enabled the amateurs to remain five points behind Hibs in second place.
The winners scored twice in the opening 15 minutes through Rebecca D’Agostino and Ingrid Vassallo.
Mosta retaliated and managed to reduce the arrears in the second half through Rebecca Chircop.
Mosta remain fourth in the standings, level with Birkirkara on 12 points and just two points ahead of the ever-improving Sta Venera Lightnings who defeated Qormi 4-0 for their third league win.
Their scorers were Mary Rose Cardona, Odette Micallef (2) and Orienne Cassar.
In another match, Raiders beat Rabat 5-0. The winners showed superiority throughout as the scoreline indicates and scored their goals through Claudia Borg (2), Marcia Zammit, Amanda Atkins and Graziella Vella.
