Local Football: Cleaven Frendo May move to Valletta

Malta Independent Tuesday, 20 December 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Marsaxlokk striker Cleaven Frendo is expected to move to Valletta FC if, as is likely, former Marsaxlokk boss Victor Scriha takes over the Valletta FC presidency, either next month or later, possibly in the summer months.

It is known that Frendo is the property of Mr Scriha, who has never denied that he is being tempted seriously to join Valletta FC. As such, it will be only obvious that Frendo will then become a City player.

Frendo is one of the hottest properties at present in local football. The Under 21 Malta player is passing through a memorable season and is the club’s and Premier league’s top scorer on 10 goals.

Marsaxlokk are still thought to be very keen on signing William Camenzuli from Birkirkara.

However, reports in the past few days indicated that the move may only occur in summer as the Stripes intend to continue challenging for the title with their present squad of players, including Camenzuli.

However, Stripes boss Victor Zammit told a club gathering last Saturday that there might be changes to the squad in January, although he never hinted that Camenzuli or any other player will be leaving the club.

Marsaxlokk are also stepping up their efforts to register a midfielder, apart from a defender.

At present they are trying to reach an amicable agreement with Chris Bart Williams to give him his release, something which has not been accepted by the English player. If he decides to sign for his release, then Marsaxlokk are likely to make a bold attempt to sign Brazilian midfielder Andre Da Silva from Tarxien Rainbows.

Another player who will possibly change club in the January transfer window is in-form Martin Deanov of Pieta Hotspurs.

It is reliably understood that Sliema Wanderers have made the player a target, but they may face opposition from Msida if the latter make it to the Championship Pool.
