FINA has approved the Malta Amateur Swimming Association's request to support a waterpolo referees clinic in Malta, following the ASA's decision to organise such a clinic following the recent changes and amendments to the rules, which could give rise to different interpretations.
FINA shall be funding the visit of the lecturer under the FINA Development programme. The Association has proposed that Mr. Gianni Lonzi, Chairman of FINA waterpolo technical committee conducts this clinic, which is scheduled to be held on the 20 and 21 January 2006.
The venue, as well as the programme has not yet been finalised, however, in all probability the first session will be held on Friday, 20th January in the afternoon and shall continue all day on Saturday 21st January. Full details shall be circulated later.
With the imminent introduction of a Coaching License, it is imperatively important for all current club and prospective waterpolo coaches to attend this clinic as 'The Rules of the Game' shall form an integral part in the curriculum that is being prepared for the Coaching License Course.
Persons who shall not be in the possession of a Coaching License may not be allowed to coach any waterpolo team.
The ASA urged clubs to inform and invite their officials, who in some way have a close contact with the game, especially those who are normally on the benches, to attend the Clinic.
The ASA's invitation is also being extended to the members of the press who regularly report waterpolo matches.
