Fencing: Young Fencers Benefit from MIA Youth Policy

Malta Independent Friday, 30 December 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

A group of eight young fencers have just returned from a one-week training camp in Lignano Sabbiadoro (Italy) in preparation for the Under 18 Championships of the Mediterranean to be held in Tunisia next month.

The Maltese contingent has been preparing for Mediterranean Championships over the past months and some of the fencers have already participated in another training camp with the Italian National team last September.

Both the training camp and the Mediterranean Championships will be funded by the MIA Youth Development Sport Policy launched earlier on this year by Malta International Airport plc and the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport.

The National Fencing Association of Malta (NFAM) is the first beneficiary of the MIA Youth Development Sport Policy. The ambitious plan of the NFAM for the next three years concentrates on training and development of talent that these young athletes possess in fencing.

This plan is in line with the concept of the MIA Youth Development Sport Policy and has therefore been short-listed to benefit from the fund.
