The Malta Gymnastics Federation has recently held its National Championships at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
The National Championship was a successful event with 80 gymnasts including boys from a government school taking part divided into different categories according to age and level.
The clubs who took part in the Gymnastics national championships were ISC, Gymstars, Acrobatic & Acro Jumpers and Degymnastics.
The boys competed on six events which are Floor, Vault, Pommel horse, Pommel bars, High Bar and Rings.
Damian Gatt from Acro Jumpers won the Gold medal overall in Level 1, 10 and unde , while Isaac Mamo from Acro Jumpers took silver and Kerstin Brown from Acro Jumpers took the bronze medal.
Sandro Cardona from Degymnastics won the gold medal in Level 1, 11 and over competing on vault and floor followed by Nathaniel Ellul from Degymnastics in second place and Charlton Borg from Guze D’Amato Secondary School in third place.
In Level 2 12 and under, Luke Schembri from Gymstars came first followed by Derek Fenech from Gymstars in second place.
In Level 2 13 and over, Mathias Camilleri from Gymstars won the gold medal followed by Andre Buhagiar in second place and David Grech in third place both from Acro Jumpers.
In the Elite Group Philip Caruana Turner from Gymstars won the gold medal followed by Jeremy Saywell also from Gymstars in the second place and Darren Debattista from Acro Jumpers who came in the third place.
The girls’ competition followed in the afternoon. The girls competed in four different events which were Floor, Vault, Beam and Uneven Bars.
Kirsty Caruana from Gymstars won the gold medal in Level 1 11 and under followed by Mia Vickery also from Gymstars in second place and Oriana Calleja from Acrobatic Jumpers in third place.
Thays Buhagiar from Gymstars came first in Level 1 12 and over followed by Julianne Vassallo from Gymstars in second place and Jessica Borg also from Gymstars in third place.
In Level 2 13 and under, Penelope Vassallo from ISC won the gold medal while Nadia Debono from Acrobatic Jumpers took the silver medal followed by Lara Formosa from ISC who took the bronze medal.
In Level 2 14 and over, Julia Gauci from ISC won the gold medal followed by Sue Hampton also from ISC in the second place and Therese Cassar from Gymstars in the third place.
In the Elite Group, Francesca Borg from Gymstars won the gold medal followed very closely by Audrey Schembri also from Gymstars in the second place who took the silver medal and Nicolette Schembri from Gymstars in the third place who took the bronze medal.
The Gymnastics Federation with the aim of encouraging more participant presented awards to the first six participants.
The medals, trophies and shields were presented by the President of the Federation, Albert Chun.
