Most sports organisations in Malta operate on a voluntary basis. Dedicated people are needed in order to run such organisations, and in most cases this is a big problem faced by the committees of these organisations. Volunteers are not so common.

The Employment & Training Corporation (ETC) can help you through its Active Youth Scheme. The scope of the scheme is to assist young jobseekers who want to contribute towards society by working with NGOs, such as religious, cultural, and sports organisations. It also helps youths discover and develop hidden talents. The youths participating in the scheme will be involved in practical projects aimed at helping the entire community or the organisation itself.

The ETC pays the participating client Lm30 per week for the duration of six months. The participant is obliged to work for 20 hours per week. A monthly payment is made through forwarding the remuneration to the youth’s bank account.

Sports organisations interested in this opportunity must be non-profit making. They must also present a feasible project that has to be approved by ETC. The nature of the project may range from maintenance work through clerical and other administrative work.

The organisation may take up more than one participant, but no participant can spend more than six months with the same organisation. After the six months, the organisation may ask for other participants. The organisation must allow the ETC to monitor the progress of the participants.

During the duration of the scheme the participant is exempted from registering, but one does not lose any social benefits. When the scheme ends he/she can continue registering without losing his/her priority.
