Thurston Grixti who plays for Peace Band Club, Naxxar, became Malta’s new Under 16 champion when he beat Wayne Pace of Vilhena Band Club, Floriana, 5-0 in the final.

Grixti was too superior for his opponent as he won five straight frames: 57-36, 49-20, 50-20, 62-35, 60-49. Grixti made two good breaks of 39 and 27.

The final was played at the Balluta Band Club in Sliema in front of a good crowd. Ten players from various clubs in Malta and one from Gozo took part in the competition. Most of the players had a very high standard of play, but Thurston Grixti proved to be an outstanding player and confirmed he is a bright prospect for the future.

The match for third place was won by Aaron Busuttil of Zejtun Band Club who defeated Jonathan Attard of Vilhena Band Club, Floriana 3-2 (32-44, 41-49, 53-26, 58-33, 63-56).

The trophies were presented by the president of the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association, Dr David Farrugia Sacco, vice-president, Frans Bugeja and secretary Paul Galea.
