The Dun Salv Portelli Primary School in San Lawrenz, Gozo, was declared the joint winner of the first prize on Friday in Category Years 5 to 12 of the first European Commission’s eTwinning Prize for school collaboration.
The ‘Talking Through Time’ project involved Cauldeen Primary School from Inverness, Scotland, UK, and Dun Salv Portelli Primary School in Gozo, Malta. The participating institutions exchanged material in order to enable all the pupils to gain diverse perspectives on the crucial historical period of World War Two.
Cauldeen school’s pupils digitally recorded personal stories, the thoughts and the feelings of some of the survivors of the generation who lived through and participated in this key period of European and world history. At the same time the partner school in Gozo researched the impact of World War Two in their own area and also collected memoirs to share in the broader framework of the eTwinning project.
This project’s objective was to help children remember the past and value the experiences of those who were directly involved in the events of 60 years ago.
The results of this eTwinning project can be found at: www.ww2inthehighlands.co.uk
The winners were announced at an event that took place in Linz, Austria.
More than 11,400 schools have registered for eTwinning so far, 100 of these being schools from Malta. The prizes consist of an all expenses paid ICT Camp on the Isle of Lanzarote, Canary Islands for 20 members from each partnership.
