The Eagles won this match after turning their overall superiority into goals in the second half. Playing their second game of this pre-season competition again at Melita Stadium the Eagles showed much improvement with a cohesive display of entertaining football.

In the first 45 minutes Wollongong showed that they will be struggling against a team that was more determined and better balanced, but there was not much excitement.

After the interval, the Eagles opened up like a house on fire and after only four minutes, went ahead when Ben Delicata was upended in the penalty box and Tanjy Balabanel scored the first goal of the season for the Eagles from the ensuing spot kick. The pressure continued and from a Joel Theissen intervention Ben Delicata hit the bottom of the upright.

The Eagles kept coming forward and should have added more goals but poor finishing kept Wollongong in the game until coach Raul Blanco made some changes and brought in both Chris Camilleri and Michael Debono. It was a substitution that paid dividends as Chris Camilleri hit the net in the 71st minute with a low powerful shot from just inside the penalty area.

In the 84th, it was the ever improving midfielder Erik Partalu who scored the best goal of the game with an anglde shot from inside the box to seal a comfortable win for the Eagles.

The Eagles’ defence was again as solid as a rock and at no time were they threatened by the Wolves.

The Under 20 years also won as they beat Wollongong 2-1 although they played with ten players for most of the second half.
