An Argentine striker and an English midfielder are on the brink of signing for Valletta as their new foreigners for the rest of the season.

The citizens earlier this month decided to terminate the contracts of Nigerians Jerry Ani and Ndubuisi Chukunyere, who left much to be desired during their stay in the capital city.

The Argentine, Omar Monesterolo, arrived in Malta on Tuesday. He is 22 years old and played for second division club Juventud Unida back home. This season he scored seven goals in 10 matches.

He has also played for more famous clubs like Boca Juniors Youths and First Division Banfield before moving to San Francisco de Cordoba in the second division.

Meanwhile, an English central midfielder is expected to arrive today with the hope of joining Valletta FC.

Craig Dean, 29, played for several teams in his career, among them Cambridge United of England, Shelbourne of Ireland and Iceland's Tvoryar FC. His most recent club was Tornio FC of Finland.

Dean also has 15 appearances with England's National Youth team.

Valletta hope to be able to sign the two players in time to play in Saturday's important match against Pieta Hotspurs.
