The contents of six containers – 134,000 pairs of fake branded shoes – were
confiscated by Customs Department officers at the Malta Freeport yesterday.
The find was made following the lengthy surveillance of a number of containers that had arrived from the Middle East and were en route to other countries.
Customs officials noticed some discrepancies in the paperwork and, following further investigations, took the decision to block six of the containers.
Following a search of the containers’ contents, a large number of branded sandals, shoes and clothes with false labels were found.
In total, 60,000 fake Nike sports shoes, 62,000 fake Nike sandals and 12,000 fake Adidas sports shoes were confiscated, the Customs Department said.
