Shooter William Chetcuti and swimmer Angela Galea were named as Malta’s Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year 2005 yesterday evening.
Also Peter Balzan was named as the Official of the Year, while Matthew Asciak won the category for the Under 17 athletes. The snooker team was named as the Team of the Year. Also honoured were athletes with special needs Helen Cordina and Joseph Bezzina.
It is a successive hat-trick of wins for the young William Chetcuti as he dominated the scene once again, polling 545 votes, well ahead of second placed Alex Borg who got 376.
Angela Galea was also well in front of second placed Marcon Bezzina in the women’s category, while Balzan was just 11 votes ahead of second placed John Farrugia. Even Matthew Asciak was a runaway winner in the Under 17 category, having polled 485 votes, 118 more than second placed Diane Borg.
