Total Industry turnover index up 6.1 per cent

The total industry turnover index has increased by 6.1 per cent from 88.8 to 94.2. The total industry’s employment index fell from 96 in November 2004 to 94.6 in November 2005. The wages and salaries index rose by 0.9 per cent and the hours worked index was down by 13.7 per cent.

During November 2005, the turnover index of the capital goods group increased by 25.8 per cent over November 2004. In the same period, this group recorded an increase in its employment index of eight per cent, from 81.1 to 87.6, and an increase in its wages and salaries index of 14 per cent, from 77.4 in November 2004 to 88.2 in November 2005. The hours worked index was down by 7.9 per cent in 2005 compared to 2004.

The consumer durable goods group turnover index, recorded an increase of 42.6 per cent, from 76.8 in November 2004 to 109.5 in November 2005. The employment index increased by 16.2 per cent during the same period. An increase of 8.2 per cent for the wages and salaries index, from 132.6 in November 2004 to 143.5 in November 2005, was also registered by this group. In November 2005, there was a reduction of 2.4 per cent in the hours worked index.

The consumer non-durable goods group registered an increase of 6.2 per cent in the turnover index from November 2004 to November 2005. In the same period, the employment index rose by 5.4 per cent, from 86.9 to 91.6. The wages and salaries index rose by 7.5 per cent and the hours worked index registered a drop of 1.4 per cent.

During November 2005, the turnover index of the energy group increased by 110.5 per cent compared with November 2004. The employment index for this group fell by 2.9 per cent, from 111 in November 2004 to 107.8 in November 2005. In the same group there was a fall of 4.1 per cent in the wages and salaries index and a fall of 3.9 per cent in the hours worked index.

The turnover index of the intermediate goods group was up by 10 per cent in November 2005 from November 2004.

The employment index registered a fall of 9.9 per cent, from 119.1 in November 2004 to 107.3 in November 2005.

In addition, the wages and salaries index was down by 1.3 per cent, from 117 in November 2004 to 115.5 in November 2005. The hours worked index dropped from 118.1 in 2004 to 107.5 in 2005, a fall of nine per cent.
