New national coach Dusan Fitzel has made his first call-ups to the national squad.

Two players, Floriana’s Trevor Cilia and Marsaxlokk’s Sean Bajada, have been promoted from the Under 21 squad and are now training with the seniors squad.

Yesterday they also took part in the friendly match which the national team played against visiting Swiss first division side FC Winterthur.

The Maltese won the match (35 minutes each way) 1-0 thanks to an Etienne Barbara strike.

Fitzel could not make use of players like captain Gilbert Agius and Kevin Sammut who are both slightly injured.

Massimo Grima of Valletta was also slightly injured during the match and was replaced as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, the previous day, the Under 21s of Malta and Winterthur figured in a goalless draw.

Both matches were played at the Ta’ Qali training grounds.
